Photo: John P Iblis/jpistudios.comJessica Alba: Celestial Shimmer"Holiday parties are the one time anyone from 16 to 60 can wear glitter and not be judged for it," declares The Body Shop celebrity makeup artist Chase Aston. The great thing about Alba's glowing look is that you can simply add sparkle to a few strategic spots over your regular makeup, and instantly transform from daytime to dance party. To add glitter to the eyes in a way that doesn't have you blinking sparkles, first line with a pencil eyeliner, and then pat a shimmer pigment like Gold Light from The Body Shop's holiday-color collection onto the line with an eye shadow brush. The grip of the creamy eyeliner texture will hold the bits in place. You can also add luminescence to the inner lids and corners of the eyes and the top of the cheekbones like Alba does, with a handy technique that keeps pigment in place."Spritz your makeup brush with water, and then dip it into the sparkle. Then gently press against the skin. The water will help the shimmer melt into your makeup and stay in place," advises Aston.Angelina Jolie's soft and sophisticated makeup look. Then using a liner like Stila's Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid, draw on a medium to thick line."You'll have more control if you apply the liquid liner by slanting the chinese remi pen, rather than drawing it on your lash line with the point of the pen," advises Nemes.Keep cheeks neutral with a natural peach blush like NARS Nico applied to the apples, which also illuminates with built-in light reflectors."After creating a clean, polished face, you now have room to play up your lips with a bold shade. Try NARS Red Lizard for that wow factor, and then top it with a dab of balm in the middle of your lips, like Kiehl's Lip Balm #1. It'll create a lightweight feel to a powerful lip," says Nemes.Rihanna's pop of green eye makeup. Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic.comRihanna: Burst of ColorNothing is as fun as a smattering of vivid color on your lids -- but there's one key technique to keep it looking posh instead of over-the-top."Keep the rest of your face ultra neutral, and blend that bright color onto your eyelids and into the crease to create one smooth pop of color," advises Nemes. You'll want to make sure the color is strongest at the lash line, and then diffuses outward into the crease for full impact without overdoing it. Line your inner rim with black liner and top lashes with generous coats of black mascara to further contrast the color. And if you love the look but are gun-shy about going all out, you can still enjoy a toned-down version of the trend."Try Mark's No Place to Run Longwear Eyeliner in Grassroots or Indigo Girl, which are a lime green and cobalt blue, and apply to your top lash line for a bold stroke of color. You're officially New Year's party-ready!" says Nemes.Taylor Swift's lush lashes and heavily-lined lids. Photo: Jon Kopaloff/FilmMagic.comTaylor Swift: Lashes for DaysThere's one trend that never dies: the look of lush lashes.Feather-soft hair bulk peepers are the hallmark of a flirtatious look, but you need to brighten up before you coat up."It's a must to conceal any darkness around the eyes first -- both top and bottom -- so that the actual eye can shine through. My favorites are Lancôme's Effacernes Waterproof Concealer and Clé de Peau Beauté's Concealer," says New York celebrity makeup artist Nicole Bryl.Once your base is neutralized, add a pair of strip lashes, such as by Ardell, that you can score for cheap at the drugstore or beauty-supply store. Finish with black eyeliner (Swift's favorite), making sure the line you draw covers the base of the false lashes."Then pile on a mascara like L'Oréal's Voluminous, so that your lashes and the strip lashes merge into one -- and boom, you're ready to rock!" says Bryl.Finish off with a dewy peachy-pink cream blush, and a lush hydrating lip gloss like Clinique's Long Last Glosswear in Bamboo Pink.Katy Perry's bubblegum pink pout. Photo: Michael Loccisano/Getty ImagesKaty Perry: Pretty in PinkA slightly smoky eye brings Perry's pink lip from good girl to party girl, and is a fun alternative to your typical holiday red lip. Pink also brings light to the face, and is a universally flattering shade."You'll want a soft smoky color like Laura Mercier's Sateen Eye Shadow in Sable on lids first. Then smolder your eye by using a kohl pencil, and blend with a smudge brush upwards," instructs L.A. celebrity makeup artist Marina Gravani. To cop Perry's wide-eyed look, extend some of your shadow application underneath the lower lash line, using a small shadow brush to blend, blend, blend. For cheeks, opt for a subtle bulk hair blush like Rimmel's Pink Glow, and sweep onto the apples, blending outward alongside the cheekbones. Finally, prep lips with a neutral lip liner that traces your shape and fills in to create a base that will last through the night's Champagne toasts and midnight kisses. Fill in with a bubblegum-pink lip color, like M.A.C Lipstick in Pink Nouveau.Round out your look with one of these six trendy New Year's Eve hairstyles.
